Devlog — Squad AI & Steering Update
Today I worked on improving enemy group behavior.
Enemies now use a steering-based movement system instead of directly moving toward the player. This makes movement feel much smoother and more natural during large fights.
Implemented behaviors:
- Seek
- Separation
- Alignment
- Cohesion
This allows enemies to:
- move as groups
- avoid overlapping too much
- align movement directions
- maintain swarm formations
The result is a much stronger “enemy horde” feeling during combat.
I also started improving Leader enemies.
Leader enemies now have:
- larger scale
- stronger stats
- outline effects
- heat-like shader distortion
This makes them easier to identify during chaotic battles and gives them a more elite presence.
One important discovery during this update:
The game feels more interesting when enemies behave like a flowing mass rather than independent units.
The core direction is becoming clearer:
This is not just a game about defeating enemies.
It is becoming a game about breaking the density and structure of enemy swarms.
